Home About Our Plants New Plants Program
Monrovia has been a leader in the acquisition, trialing and promotion of new plants for the past eighty years. These exciting new varieties come to us through many different channels. We have relationships with breeders who seek to improve current varieties, perhaps producing a more compact plant or one with a unique flower color. We also work with plant hunters who travel the globe to find and identify exciting new discoveries. Other resources for the discovery of new plants are our own Craftsmen at Monrovia and the American gardening community, a dedicated group of enthusiasts who are always on the lookout for something new and unusual.

Potential new plants are evaluated in Monrovia’s bullpen – named for the bullpen in baseball, where pitchers warm up. Plants are trialed in the regional environment where they will do the best and evaluated for their potential success in the U.S. marketplace. Typically, only one in 50 plants under observation is added to our line.

It is our goal to make the gardeners of America more successful in their own paradise of flora and we believe that creating great, new plants is an important way of achieving this mission.
